SIMPSON’S IN THE STRAND
BRANDING
Regenerating a London icon
As one of the oldest restaurants in London, it is packed full of stories. Walking through the rooms and corridors, the history is there to see. Simpsons started off as a chess house, which then became a restaurant with trolley service (so you could continue playing chess), and then later became famous for its roast dinners.

Simpsons were no longer on the radar of the new generation of foodies. Their brand and interiors had become tired. It was time to inject some modernity and be relevant again.
We focussed on the relevant and interesting elements of its past, focussing on its rich history in chess and meat carving which formed the new logo. We created a modernised, bespoke wordmark with the characters redrawn from the original sign above the entrance.
Victorian linoprint illustrations are used to tell the quirky and unique stories and their illustrious diners from times past.
